With February Half Term approaching, there’s plenty of fun activities to do around Cornwall and Devon to keep the whole family amused. Whether you are planning on staying at Glebe House Cottages in Cornwall, are holidaying somewhere else in the area, or if you live locally, we have rounded up a list of the best activities:

Bodmin Steam Railway

For some family friendly fun, Bodmin Steam Railway are offering a great deal. Kids can travel for just £1 during Half Term week (up to two children with one paying adult), leaving from Bodmin General Station, running from Sunday 17th – Sunday 24th February.

Steam and Cream Trains

If you fancy a Cornish cream tea while on your holiday in Cornwall then why not treat the family to Steam and Cream Trains running from Monday 18th – Sunday 24th February, departing from Bodmin General Station. You will enjoy a traditional and locally sourced Cornish cream tea, on the Cornish Belle steam train, with stunning views of the Cornish countryside. Do you have any family members with a dietary requirement? When notified in advance, they offer vegan and gluten free cream teas too!

Mud & Machines – RHS Rosemoor, Great Torrington

You and the family can drop in on different Half Term activities for children throughout the week, running from Sunday 10th – Monday 18th February. Every day kids will get a selection of quiz sheets and colouring templates to complete, which will be added to RHS Rosemoor’s giant farm and building site collage! Some  activities include making your own clay bowl and decorating it with natural material that you collect from Rosemoor Woods, making your own digging machine or tractor using cardboard and crayons and decorating your own ‘edible muddy pancakes’. It’s going to be messy, so wellies are a must for these great activities in Devon. These events will be ideal for our guests as RHS Rosemoor is only 20 minutes away from Glebe House Cottages in Cornwall.

Early Man – the Eden Project

In celebration of the upcoming release of the Aardman film ‘Early Man’ (from the creators of Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep), the Eden Project will be ‘going back to the stone age’ from Sunday 10th – Monday 18th February. The dome tent in the arena will become a Stone Age cave and they are hosting a week of themed activities, taking place around the gardens and Biomes. There is also Ice-skating at the Eden Project, where you can have some great fun on their ice rink until Sunday 24th February.

Live music events

For any fans of live music, there’s plenty going on in Cornwall during February Half Term, with an assortment of events set to entertain all ages, including:

  • Company B live at The Seahorse in Pentewen, Saturday 16th February
  • Song Concert at St Mary’s Church in Penzance, Sunday 17th February
  • Claude Bourbon’s Medieval and Spanish blues at Lane Theatre, Sunday 17th February
  • Young Musicians’ Platform, Truro Cathedral, Tuesday 19th February and St Mary’s Church in Penzance, Sunday 24th February
  • Carn to Cove’s original soundtrack and story, Bagas Degol: The Winding World, Troon Church Hall, Friday 22nd February and Crackington Institute, Saturday 23rd

Lentsherd, Clovelly

While not in February Half Term, another good event worth mentioning is Lentsherd, held on Tuesday 5th March 2019. It is an old traditional event held every Shrove Tuesday in Clovelly, Devon. The practise is to chase bad spirits away and drive the devil into the sea before Lent. At dusk, children drag tin cans down the old tiled highstreet and on to the beach, which are then tied together and thrown into the sea (and later retrieved). Entry to Lentsherd is completely free and children will also have the fun opportunity to decorate their own pancake!
