We think that the South West is a fantastic place to take your children for a family holiday. There is so much to see and do, especially with the fun family events taking place this Spring. To help families plan some memorable days out, we’ve made a list of 4 children friendly places to visit in Devon and Cornwall.

1. The Milky Way Adventure Park

Based near Clovelly and only a 30 minute drive from our Bude holiday lettings, The Milky Way is a great attraction for children and parents. It has over 110,000 sq ft of indoor fun and lots of outdoor activities. The Milky Way Adventure Park is the biggest all weather family day out in North Devon and all the rides are included in the entrance fee.

There are rides and attractions to suit all ages. The Cosmic Typhoon roller coaster reaches speeds of over 40mph and the Milky Way Railway takes you around the grounds, with views of the North Devon coast and Dartmoor. There are assault courses and slides, built for both children and adults. The adventure park also offers amazing live shows, featuring Merlin from Britain’s Got Talent, as well as fantastic displays from the North Devon Bird of Prey Centre. There are so many things to do, you won’t know where to start!

2. The Gnome Reserve & Wild Flower Garden

For a completely unique experience, visit The Gnome Reserve & Wild Flower Garden. It’s set in rural countryside, between Bideford and Bude and is only 12 miles from our Bude holiday lettings. The 4 acre reserve has woodland, a stream, a pond, a meadow and a garden, which is home to over 1000 gnomes and pixies.

When you arrive you will be invited to try on your own gnome hat, so that you blend in with the gnomes in the garden. This creates fantastic opportunities for selfies, so make sure you remember your cameras! You and the kids will love exploring the beautiful gardens searching for a variety of themed gnomes, from olympian to astronaut gnomes. Entrance to the reserve is very reasonable, at only £3.95 per adult and £3.50 per child.

3. Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre

Situated only 10 miles away from our Bude holiday lettings, on the way to Launceston, you will find the Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre. This is a fantastic place for families to get very close to a wide range of animals, including otters, wallabies, deer, owls, meerkats and plenty more.

The Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre has two otter ponds, with 8 enclosures of both British and Asian short clawed otters. You can see the otters being fed by hand every day between 12pm and 3pm.

Beyond the otter ponds, fallow deer are in a woodland enclosure and you will see wallabies and munjac deer roaming around the 21 acre grounds. There is also an opportunity to buy food to feed to the deer and wallabies, some of which love being sociable. The Wildlife centre also hosts birds of prey shows, where you will have the chance to hold owls and other birds and hear interesting information from the bird keepers.

They also have a tea room serving hot and cold food, including menu items such as Cornish Cream Teas, quiches, jacket potatoes and sandwiches. Not only is it a great family day out but your visit will help to fund the centre and conservation activities, especially otter rehabilitation.
